More than $178,000 was raised at Coast Capital Savings' 8th Annual Charity Golf Tournament benefiting depression research and treatment at VGH & UBC Hospital Foundation for Depression Research. Since 2002, the annual event has raised over $980,000, with the majority of funds going toward research, treatment and awareness of mental illness.

The Westminster Savings Foundation provided $20,000 to Servants Anonymous Surrey, a society dedicated to preventing child and youth exploitation, and $10,000 was donated to Children of the Street Society in Coquitlam, offering support to families, public awareness, education and prevention-based workshops. They also provided $6,000 to Aunt Leah's Independent Lifeskills Society in New Westminster to fund workshops for youth at risk.

Richmond E-Venti Marathon organizers donated $8,500 to the Richmond Public Library for the purchase of children's books for Summer Reading Club.

The R. Howard Webster Foundation has committed $300,000 to the Justice Institute of British Columbia's new Centre for the Prevention and Reduction of Violence which will establish and teach best practices for front-line professionals.

RBC Foundation donated $7,500 to the Surrey School District for the first annual RBC Wicket Cricket Program. 10 schools received cricket sets and 2100 students from grades 3 - 7 received cricket coaching.

The 27 teams that participated in the fourth year of Canary Derby soap box races, held in Victoria and Vancouver, raised $242,000 in support of cancer research for the BC Cancer Foundation. The event has raised over $657,000 for early cancer detection research in BC.

More than 120 Terasen employees donated their time and talent to the Richmond Sharing Garden helping to grow food for those in need. It was one of three Terasen community volunteer projects this spring. In total, more than 300 employees volunteered their time. Other projects included revitalizing a recreation area near Kamloops and helping with renovations and repairs at the Clay Tree Society in Nanaimo. All three received a $30,000 donation from Terasen.

Burnaby Hospital Foundation's Signature Event, The Slice, raised $100,000 for Burnaby Hospital's highest priority equipment needs.

SOS Children's Village BC's 6th Annual Food and Wine event sponsored by Treegroup Developments and G & F Financial Group raised over $31,000 to support our village and support programs for children in foster care.

Employees and associates of distribution and logistics company Wallace & Carey teed up for kids at their second annual golf tournament, raising $50,100 for Kids Help Phone, keeping professional counsellors available for BC kids 24/7, on the phone and online.

The A&W Root Bear presented Beverly Matsu of the Multiple Sclerosis Society of Canada with a cheque for $1014 collected from Vancouver Canadians fans who donated a minimum $1 to the MS Society for a root beer float.

The Canadian Tourism College has awarded over $ 50,000 in bursaries to local high school students who graduated in 2009 and are considering careers in the Tourism and Hospitality sectors.

Dockside Green has been selected as one of two Canadian developments, and one of 16 communities around the world that the Clinton Climate Initiative has named as founding "Climate Positive Developments."

RBC Foundation has donated $50,000 to Junior Achievement of British Columbia in support of the "Economics for Success" program for Grade 9/10 students.

Rudy Nielsen , president, The NIHO Group donated $10,000 to the Make-A-Wish Foundation of BC & Yukon to support their wish granting program.

Kin's Farm Market has donated $10,000 to the Richmond Hospital Foundation for its MRI Campaign.

The Westminster Savings Foundation has donated $5,000 to the Hyde Creek Watershed Society Hatchery for a mural project depicting the fall spawning season of Pacific salmon.

Team RJC - Ride for Rick, with support from consulting engineering firm Read Jones Christoffersen Ltd. staff, friends, and colleagues, raised over $80,000 in the 2009 Ride to Conquer Cancer benefiting the BC Cancer Foundation. Team RJC rode in support of longtime friend and employee Rick Banman, who succumbed to cancer in April.
