Omineca

The Omineca area consists of rolling hills, vast plateaus and impressive mountain ranges. Rapid waters rage down these rivers, cutting through the lush forests and rocky hills. Located in the northern interior of the province, this area is truly the great outdoors of British Columbia, snowy during the winters and warm in the summers. In some regions of the Omineca, it is said that the population is one person per 180 square miles. Most of that population is close to the railway or highway. Bush planes are a common site here. But cosmopolitan centers such as Prince George also exist here, providing world-class facilities and amenities to the surrounding areas. You can be as remote or as close to civilization as you wish.

In this region, Mother Nature is right at your doorstep.

Wildlife is abundant in this mostly untouched region. The Omineca is home to black bears, moose, and elk, and hundreds of species of birds make the yearly migration to the Omineca for the mild summer months.Thousands of lakes and salmon spawning rivers provide abundant food and water supplies to the region, and many fishermen make their way to rivers like the Babine and the Nass to try their luck against the thousands of fish hurrying to the spawning areas of the Pacific Ocean each year.

History abounds in this area. From the First Nations peoples who have called this area their home from time immemorial, to the fur trappers who came to explore and trade, to the pioneers who followed in their footsteps, every acre of the Omineca has a different story to tell.

Follow in our forefathers’ footsteps and explore the great outdoors of the Omineca.

Granisle OMINECA 49 A, C, D, H

One remaining trailer lot, located in the charming small town of Granisle, located on beautiful Babine Lake, 40 miles east of Smithers, as the crow flies. Most of these lots are covered in lawn, with gravel driveways extending from a paved frontage road. They are fully serviced, including power, telephone, water, sewer and channel TV. The influx of retirees, along with government commitment to maintaining existing services and aggressively stimulating the community’s tourist potential, have given Granisle a complete facelift. Fishing is superior. Types include rainbow trout, char, kokanee, turbot, salmon and steelhead. Fly fishing is strong in the Babine River. Lot 49 backs onto a small park, which includes a playground. Again they are level, with lawn, and above road grade. Granisle offers a superb, quite large marina, with a sandy beach, hiking trails, school, hockey and curling rink, tennis courts, community hall, library, post office and police station.
