The Chilcotin is known as the
beginning of B.C’s Cowboy
Country, housing some of the
largest cattle ranches in B.C,
with cowboys guiding the cattle
herds that swell across the
land. It is rich in history with
many towns founded during the
gold rush era still in
existence, some still panning
the dregs of gold left behind by
our pioneering forefathers. |

there are other recreational opportunities than the
cattle ranches and gold panning. People come from
all over the world to go white water rafting on the
many famous rivers or fish in some of the most
abundant freshwater lakes in B.C. The perfect
climate for winter recreation means that there is an
abundance of cross-country and snowmobile tracks,
and when the lakes freeze over, the fun moves onto
the ice for skating, hockey, and, in the dead of
winter, car races!
While it takes more time to access this area from
the urban areas of the south, it is well worth it.
About 12% of the Cariboo-Chilcotin is protected by
Provincial parkland, meaning that there are
thousands of acres of untouched woodlands still
roamed by rare wildlife far away from the human
sprawl of the south. |
